Gay parenting (Essay Sample) Content: Gay Adoption and Foster Parenting to Adopt Children (Student Name) (Student ID) (Course Code) February 23, 2014 Introduction Parenting is a social process that has been greatly affected by emerging issues in the international system like lesbianism and homosexuality. This affects the understanding of the concepts and practices of parenting. The increasing population of gay and lesbian couple is becoming a problem to understanding of parenting and those involved (Jaslow, 2012 p.234). The debate about gay adoption and foster parenting to adopt children is a legal and social dilemma that many scholars are still exploring, which is the purpose of this essay. There are many issues to be considered in this topic of gay parenting (Jaslow, 2012 p.240).This includes the sexual orientation of children. It involves the inner feelings, which are expressed through behavior. Sexual identity, which is a product of social interaction between nature and nurturing process, is also an issue of concern in this debate. Finally, psychological impact on a child who is raised under this family has also been debated on; especially in a society, that majority of the population is opposed to homosexuality. Fischer (2008.p223) says that gay adoption varies from state to state. Some have accepted the laws but other states criticize it. Currently fourteen states have legalized this parenting system but majority of the states are against it. Conclusion Finally, a child requires parental care from parents of opposite sexes. In this case, parenting obtained from opposite sexes gives representation of both femininity and masculinity.
